🎾 League Rules
SOTA Friends Tennis League — Official Rules & Guidelines
📅 Line-Up Exchange Rules
  • Deadline: Lineups MUST be exchanged by 10 PM Thursday. A 2-point deduction applies if the lineup is not shared by the deadline.
  • Default play day: 1st Wednesday after the line-up exchange.
  • Player Availability: Captains must ensure players are available on:
    • Wednesday (default day)
    • Tuesday of the following week (default play-by-day in case of weather delays)
🎉 Default Play-Day Bonus: If a particular line completes their match on the immediate Wednesday after lineup exchange, both teams earn an extra point.
✏️ Line-Up Modifications

A lineup may be tweaked after exchange only if all of the following conditions are met:

  • The match for that line has not yet started.
  • The tweaked lineup still abides by the SOR rule.
  • The new player being added must be available to play on both the default day (Wednesday) and the play-by day (Tuesday of the following week).
⚠️ Forfeit Policy
  • If a line cannot finish their match by Tuesday (11 days after lineup exchange), the team with the unavailable player will forfeit.
  • If both teams have availability issues, both receive zero points.
  • The EC decision is final in all forfeit matters.
📣 Captains are strongly urged to take all necessary efforts to avoid forfeits. The league does not want any forfeits — please coordinate early!
📚 General Rules
  • 10 teams with 10 players each, including an Ace (Rank 1) — total of 100 players. The Ace is associated with a single team for the entire season.
  • 4 lines each week. The top-ranked available players for that week must play Line 1.
  • 5 lines in the playoffs. The team winning 3 out of 5 lines advances.
  • The Ace (Rank 1) always plays Line 1.
  • Break time between sets must not exceed 3 minutes.
  • Minimum Play Requirement: Every player must play a minimum of 4 matches. Teams failing to meet this will be held in default with a 25-point penalty.
  • All disputes should first be resolved between captains. Issues that cannot be resolved will be escalated to the EC, whose decision is final.
  • ECs may provide extensions in case of weather delays.
🏆 Ranks & Allowed Lines — League Stage

Line SOR (Sum of Ranks) must be in ascending order (greater than or equal to) from Line 1 to Line 4. Assume Ace = value 1 for SOR calculations. The lowest-ranked available player plays Line 4.

Rank Allowed Lines
1  Ace Line 1 only
2Lines 1, 2
3Lines 1, 2, 3
4Lines 1, 2, 3
5Lines 2, 3

🅾 Scoring System

The league uses a round-robin format where all teams play every other team.

🅾 Match Won in 2 Sets
  • Winning team: 14 points
  • Losing team: Points equal to games won
    (minimum 2 — maximum 8 points)
🅾 Match Won in 3 Sets
  • Winning team: 14 points
  • Losing team: 10 points
🅾 Third Set: By default a full set is played. If all 4 players agree, a full 12-point Tie-Breaker may be used instead.
⚖️ Tie-Breaking Rules
  • 3+ teams tied: Overall score between tied teams and the percentage of games won vs. games lost is used as the deciding factor.
  • 2 teams tied: The team that won their head-to-head match during the league stage advances.
🩹 Injury Rules
  • If a player is injured during a match, the match is considered forfeited by the injured player's team.
  • The injured team receives only the points accumulated at the time of injury; the opposing team receives the full 14 points.
  • If all 4 players agree to continue the match later, that arrangement is appreciated.
  • No late pass for any match unless exceptional circumstances are pre-approved by EC.
👥 Player Replacement Process

In case of injury, the Captain may suggest a replacement, but the final decision rests with the EC.

  • Captain contacts EC directly to request a replacement player.
  • EC works to identify a candidate; the other 9 captains vote (the requesting captain must not vote).
  • A minimum of 5 positive votes is required. If not received, an alternative will be suggested.
  • The snake draft position of the replaced player will be factored into replacement decisions.
  • At the playoff stage, preference is given to players from eliminated teams at the same rank.
🏅 Playoff Criteria
  • Teams ranked 1 to 3 from each group (A & B) advance to playoffs. Ranks 4 & 5 are eliminated.
  • Division Winners (DW) go directly to the Semi-Finals. Highest points = DW1, second = DW2. Ties resolved by head-to-head, then next common opponent.
